VOLUNTEERISM
The breadth of JVS programming is enhanced by the tireless efforts of our volunteers. Their contributions are as diverse as the wide array of services that JVS provides: mentors who share business expertise with budding entrepreneurs; professionals, having achieved success in their respective fields, who review loan applications for small business start-ups; individual tutors in vocational English who help newly arrived refugees prepare for the world of work; experts who impart job search information and strategies to unemployed middle managers and executives; and volunteers who perform clerical functions.

JVS and our clients benefit greatly from the time, energy and knowledge they give. Their participation, which complements our core services, is essential in helping us maximize resources and has become an integral part of our mission. Listed below are some of JVS’ current volunteer opportunities:

NEWLY ARRIVED REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT PROGRAMS
Volunteers assist the staff and work directly with clients in tutoring and assisting refugees from the former Soviet Union and all over the world to adjust to the community. JVS volunteers tutor new Americans in English language proficiency and basic computer skills and provide mentoring. For further information call (773) 743-5638 or e-mail jvsvolunteer@jvschicago.org.

PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMS
Members of the business community serve as expert panelists in programs for unemployed middle and upper-level management and executive clients. They also provide business start-up expertise, mentoring, technical assistance and lead workshops for entrepreneurs. For information call (312) 673-3443 or e-mail jvsjen@jvschicago.org.

SENIOR AIDES PROGRAM
Retired volunteers with experience in business or human resources work with seniors, ages 55 and up, assisting them in writing resumes and improving their job search strategies and interviewing skills. Volunteering takes place at 216 West Jackson, Chicago with a required commitment of at least four hours a week. For information call (312) 673-3428 or e-mail jvsvolunteer@jvschicago.org.

YOUTHABILITY
The JVS youthAbility program partners with highly regarded service organizations to recruit and match youth (ages 17-24) with disabilities residing in northern Cook County into volunteer positions. To access youthAbility or to list a volunteer opening, call (847) 412-4300 or e-mail jvsnb@jvschicago.org.

For questions or additional information regarding any of the above volunteer opportunities, e-mail jvsvolunteer@jvschicago.org.
